Anyone up for a Sydney meet up??

With the arrival of the first day of spring I'm suddenly feeling the urge to have another Sydney MN meet up. The last one was fun, although perhaps we could manage a turn out of more than three people this time Grin

So if anybody's interested maybe we could start thinking about date/time/venue?

yes, folks are downsizing, moving to an apartment in The Rocks - ooh ah! It will be sad. Mum will be in South Africa, so I'll be keeping Dad's spirits up. He's lived there since he was 6.

Still, it will be good to have babysitters handy to the city for future meet ups :) I hope you all have a great time.

sunnydelight · 05/10/2010 00:42

Oh that is a biggie Astrophe. Do you want to e-mail me after the school hols and we'll try again to meet up? I need to make a couple of trips to Ikea in the next month as I can't fit all I need into the car in one go.

Astrophe · 05/10/2010 00:57

yes Sunny, do email me, I will have lost my head by then. We have to move out by the 24th...still haven't found a new house yet. So actually, maybe we could catch up in November?

Eralc · 11/10/2010 06:52

Is it still ok if I come along? I haven't met anyone on here before, so I'm not sure how I will find you (if it helps, I will probably be looking overheated, 25 weeks pregnant and lost!)

bunnygirl80 · 11/10/2010 08:04

eralc definitely come along - the more the merrier.

Not entirely sure how we'll all identify each other - last time we wore badges with MN on them.

I'll be looking 35 weeks pregnant, overheated and swollen up like a ballonn if it's remotely humid Grin I'll message you my mobile number so you can call if you get really lost!

Noooooo - DH has just told me that he is going away for the weekend, a friend of his is leaving to live in Singapore and he's organizing a last minute boys' camping trip. To be fair I totally forgot to tell him about the meet up as normally it wouldn't be an issue so don't really feel I can say "but you promised" and DH really rarely does things like that whereas I often do! There is a small chance I might be able to get DS1 to look after his siblings and join you later in the afternoon - what time are you meeting?

bunnygirl80 · 12/10/2010 23:26

Oh no sunny! Hope you can manage to bribe persuade your DS to watch his siblings.

I think the plan is to meet at 12:30

Hey everyone in Sydney!

I am in England. My cousin and his family live in WA. His son has leukeamia and I would like to send a book (have a specific one in mind) to him for a birthday present.

Is it cheaper for me to buy it in England and then post it or can I buy it from an online australian website and get it posted straight to him? Can any of you help me please?

Thank you.

bunnygirl80 · 13/10/2010 00:53

Hi cece

Sorry to hear your cousin's DS is so ill.

Books are expensive here compared with in the UK, so I often order them from amazon.co.uk. They deliver to Oz for a pretty reasonable price, so you wouldn't need to get the book sent to you and then post it yourself. They should gift wrap it as well if you want. Cost wise, it would probably be the same, or even slightly cheaper, than orderding it from somewhere in Oz.

It normally takes about 7-10 days for orders to be delivered to Sydney - I think it might take a bit longer to rural areas.

Hope that helps.

sorry to hear about your cousin's DS, cece - I think bunnygirl has covered the books point so I won't repeat it.

Am hoping to still make it on Saturday but have been laid low with a vile bug. If I am still remotely ill I am not going to come, not out of wimpishness but because I don't want to pass it on, especially to you, Bunny.
We were at Wyong hospital all monday morning because DS was running a huge temp and complaining of tummy pain; while there, I started throwing up and had horrible gut pains too. Both of us started with a cough as the first symptom. Anyway - DS has a bit of an ear infection, we are both now snotty as; and DH has the cough and feels weak and feeble but otherwise seems ok. Hoping it goes off as fast as it came on but no promises (will be gutted if I can't make it though!)

RillaMyRilla · 13/10/2010 02:58

I'm not in Australia (nearby :))but just wanted to say about books - www.bookdepository.co.uk delivers free worldwide (even if you just order one book!). The books themselves are a bit more expensive than amazon but it usually works out cheaper because of not having to pay postage.

cece · 13/10/2010 14:44

Thank you

Have a lovely meet up!

bunnygirl80 · 14/10/2010 06:49

Oh no thumb. Hope you're all feeling better soon.

If you can't make it I'm wondering whether it might be worth rescheduling - numbers are starting to look a bit thin if you and sunny can't come.

Lots of people posted and said they would come and then haven't been back to the thread, so not sure if they have forgotten or if they're just lurking.

OP posts:
sunnydelight · 14/10/2010 07:07

Rather selfishly Grin I would love a reschedule if numbers look thin. I have such fond memories of Brighton MN meets and I can't believe that I've been in Sydney now for three years and haven't managed to meet any of you. DS1 is being very cooperative about childcare but the reality of Saturday morning activities for the other two and an early dinner with kids arrangement I can't get out of would make a trip to the city so short it's really not worth it.

Eralc · 14/10/2010 07:41

I would be happy to reschedule if it's easier for people/means more people can come.

3thumbedwitch · 14/10/2010 07:56

the only risk with rescheduling is your due date, bunny - when is it?

I am not sure how well I will be this Saturday - probably still hacking away sadly. DS is still quite unwell in fits and starts but I have been told it is a virus that normally lasts around 5 days so should be finishing tomorrow.

However, I'm ok with a reschedule but can't do next weekend as I'm up in Queensland - could do the one after though?

VFemme · 14/10/2010 09:16

I don't mind a reschedule if it helps get the numbers up. (And I was hoping to meet sunnydelight so we could discuss the delights of the Hornsby mall...)

Just let me know where and when...

bunnygirl80 · 14/10/2010 23:08

My due date's not until 19th November so we've got a few weeks yet!

As it looks like thumbwitch and sunnydelight definitely won't make it tomorrow, I reckon we should reschedule. Also the weather's meant to be a bit pants so it might not be the best day to sit outside near the water.

How does the 30th October suit everyone?

OP posts:
3thumbedwitch · 14/10/2010 23:25

30th October sounds good to me - will definitely be lurgy-free by then as will certainly not be lurgy-free by tomorrow.

In fact, I can do any weekend apart from 23rd October, so if 30th doesn't suit I'm happy for it to be any other weekend.

Eralc · 15/10/2010 03:48

30th Oct is fine with me too (and am also free pretty much every weekend after that too!)

sunnydelight · 16/10/2010 00:36

I'm pretty sure I can make the 30th - just need to check with DH when he gets back (if he hasn't been blown away by now!) as there's a fair amount of ferrying kids around that day.

bunnygirl80 · 20/10/2010 23:25

Right, looks like we're on for attempt number 2 on the 30th October.

Shall we meet at around 12:30?

OP posts:
Eralc · 22/10/2010 06:07

That should be fine with me.

VFemme · 25/10/2010 02:48

Fine with me too!

ben5 · 25/10/2010 05:01

bunnygirl80 not all of WA is remote!!
hope you all have a good meet up
