Please can somebody tell me whether it is necessary for my dd11 to go to international school or would she be OK in the German speaking state school.

Dh and I can't agree. I would really appreciate a neutral point of view.

Hi, I only have experience of starting younger DD's in zurich state primary/KG a year ago. That has gone very well (tough for the first few months!) but a number of expats I know send their dc's to state primary followed by private secondary to do the IB and we may do the same if we're here long enough.

I guess at 11 she'd still have a year or two of primary here and you could move her private later if it wasn't working out.

If she's bright and you're hoping she'll go to university she'd need to pass an exam at about 12/13 to go to Gymnasium. If you speak German yourself it would obviously help to support her progress.

Hope that helps...

Depends on whether you are there for the long term or just a short time. We've just left Zug and I wish I'd sent our DD to a local school. She went to international and didn't really learn an awful lot TBH. At least at Swiss school she would have learned the language.
