Stray cat with kittens in Languedoc (France) - advice

We own a holiday villa near Beziers which we rent out all summer. We have just been contacted by our local management company to say that a stray cat has had kittens in one of our sheds and what do we want to do about it!

They said that if they take them to the local vet then they would charge around 35 euros each to have them put to sleep. They've offered to drown them Shock but I can't allow that.

Does anybody know if there's an animal charity that could help or if there's a local animal shelter? My French is not good enough to have this sort of conversation over the phone.

I'd also like to ensure that the mother is helped as I don't want to add to the stray cat population. Sad

The french aren't known for their compassion towards small animals (cats in particular, in my experience), hence why they would offer to drown them I suppose. We had a holiday home in Normandy for a few years and there were regularly squashed kittens in the lane where they'd wandered into the path of a car Sad, nobody seemed to be much bothered by it . Hopefully someone will know if there are any cat protection places in languedoc, could you google it?

RSCPA< is called SPA (societe protectrice des animaux) in france they nute the cats and dogs for free and should rehomed the kitten, or put them down humanely if not possible. You should find their number in the yellow pages.

Thank you so much mamaloco - there appears to be an Arche de Noel in Beziers which I will ask our management company to contact.

I did look at the SPA website but didn't find this.
