We're moving to Melbourne in September. Its all a bit last minute so its a bit of a panic.

Just wondering if anyone can recommend a decent door to door shipping company.

Hi

I used Excess Baggage shipping see linkabout 5 years ago. I shipped probably a room's worth of furniture and things back to Melbourne from the UK. They were very good, great price and great communication plus everything turned up in perfect condition - so would recommend.

Sorry probably should have linked to www.excess-international.com/ which is the removals section of the company.

We used GB Liners when we moved to Sydney and they were fantastic. They use Nuss this end to deliver and unpack. We found the staff really helpful and polite at both ends and their quote was good compared to others.

I've used Allied Pickfords for a couple of international moves (one out of Australia, and one into the UK, but not actually between the UK and Australia), and they have been pretty efficient. I've also heard good reports of Crown. If you use a smaller firm, check whether they have their own operation both ends or if they subcontract, and if so to whom, then check online for reviews.

Picfords were great in the UK but shocking in oz.... would not recommend them.

We used Bonners in the UK and they were twinned with a company here in NZ. They were great. We have used them from UK to Brussels and then to NZ. Great communication wise and efficient.

We used Crown, they are quite expensive but DH negotiated and we got a really good quote. We heard they were the best and they do both ends (ahem!) so you aren't dealing with subcontractors when you get to Oz.

However, we had a shared container and it still hasn't left the UK yet after being packed a month ago....!

Don't use Anglo Pacific. PSS international have a good reputation.

Allied Pickfords were really good.

fizzytree · 21/07/2010 08:11

We used PSS. they were great.

Britannia

V good both ends. No breakages. Once here they put everything in the rooms we wanted it in & unwrapped the bigger stuff. They took the packaging away & even offered to come back in a few weeks for the boxes, but we kept them!

We shipped heaps, half a container at least.

sunnydelight · 21/07/2010 10:22

Different's post reminded me, don't let them take the boxes - they are not doing you a favour, moving within Australia is really expensive and they charge you for every cardboard box on top of the actual removal. You can sell them on ebay if you don't want them.

differentnameforthis · 21/07/2010 23:12

Or give them away on freecycle!

I see so many people offering packing boxes or asking for them, on there!
