Hand hold - DH likely to die in next few days

My DH went to hospital a month ago with seizures that wouldn’t stop. He was resistant to all medication so they had to put him in an induced coma on ICU to try and stop them and reduce swelling on the brain. This last option hadn’t worked, as they don’t know the underlying cause for the seizures and they’ve now told me he’s unlikely to survive.

We have two young children and I’m not sure how I can face life without him or how I would break the news to DS9 when the time comes. My other child is 4. I’m in bits, he’s only 39 and was fit and healthy before this.

Are you taking care of yourself, love?

While you're taking care of everyone else, who's looking after you? I hope someone is doing that for you, and I pray that things will continue to improve.❤

Hi all - I just wanted to update you all on DH after all your kind words. He’s doing really well! He’s now out of ICU and on a ward. He still doesn’t have a diagnosis but the docs are pretty convinced it’s mitochondrial disease even though his blood tests and muscle biopsy for it were both negative. He’s also having his DNA genome tested (or something like that to check for epilepsy and GLUT1 mutations). All other tests, scans etc have all been negative.

He can’t walk yet and struggles to use his left side but he’s mentally ok (a few cognitive issues) and is making amazing progress each day. He’s finding the hospital a challenge as he’s been there almost 3 months now so is quite depressed but they’re hoping to move him to a brain rehab facility soon which is just near our house. I think this would really help him progress a lot faster and help him mentally.

So thanks again for all your advice and help. It really helped get me through a truly awful time. And if he gets a diagnosis, I’ll post an update here as I know lots of you had ideas on what it may be. xx

So happy to hear this OP. Sorry your DH is struggling but wow what a miracle from your early posts that he is ‘back with you.’ Thoughts to all of you for a proper diagnosis and continued recovery for DH. xx

Really pleased to hear he is making progress and I hope it continues. Let's hope the doctors' assessment is right so that he can get the appropriate treatment.
