Hand hold - DH likely to die in next few days

My DH went to hospital a month ago with seizures that wouldn’t stop. He was resistant to all medication so they had to put him in an induced coma on ICU to try and stop them and reduce swelling on the brain. This last option hadn’t worked, as they don’t know the underlying cause for the seizures and they’ve now told me he’s unlikely to survive.

We have two young children and I’m not sure how I can face life without him or how I would break the news to DS9 when the time comes. My other child is 4. I’m in bits, he’s only 39 and was fit and healthy before this.

That's great news , I know there is probably still a long road ahead of all of you but you are heading in the right direction.

Great news OP. Interesting to see that autoimmune encephalitis is now considered a possibility. Have they done a lumbar puncture to check for any antibodies that could be involved? It may not throw up anything, which was the case with my DH, but it could help to narrow it down. If it does turn out to be AE, I highly recommend getting in touch with Encephalitis International (aka Encephalitis Society), who are a mine of information and support for sufferers and their families/carers.

Hi yes he’s had a few lumbar punctures that’s have been clear but they’re testing him for various other antibodies that may cause encephalitis. They’re still waiting for a few blood tests to come back but at least they have more time now he’s stable.

So pleased at your update, op, hope he continues to improve 💐

Velvian · 24/07/2024 11:08

So pleased for you @Bahemoth . When my Dsis had encephalitis, it was the high dose steroids that finally brought an improvement. They never found the cause for my sister, but she did recover.

Great news for the family.

I didn’t want to mention it before but have you had the spring water recently retested as I do know it can change.
