Hi, an elderly friend of the family has been having palliative treatment for lung cancer which hasn’t been successful. He recently started chemo but has now developed pneumonia and sepsis. His family were told they could visit the hospital at any time day or night under the circumstances and it could be days if not hours. But in the last couple of days there have been some ‘encouraging signs’ according to the doctor but the family has still been asked to sign a ‘do not resuscitate’ form. The family has been told he won’t be moved to ICU. He is very confused, distressed and weak. He isn’t eating and the staff say that is the least of their concerns.
The family still hope he will recover. Has anyone been through anything similar? Is recovery even possible at this stage? I know it is impossible to say but it sounds to me like it is just a matter of time now.
