I wanted to speak to someone if they have a similar experience as me. I had anal abscess and when I went in to have emergency surgery the surgeons diagnosed me with fistula and they placed seton. After 5 weeks that seton was removed in an emergency surgery and abscess was drained, packed and dressed. Now cut long story short I’ve been having issues with my anal muscles. No one understand what agony I
Going through on a daily basis . It’s painful and sore plus I’m having problem with contenance. Can’t hold wind and when I have urge to go to toilet I can’t delay. I have one more abscess which they haven’t drained yet and suffering from a lot of pain around that area. I will be very grateful if any one with similar experience share their experience and advise me what to expect next.

Three weeks ago I became a reluctant member of the seton club to treat my rectovaginal fistula.

At first I was pretty devastated by it, but now I can see how it's helping me by directing bowel content away from the vagina.

I think you should try to speak to your consultant about the urgency and continence issues.

You might benefit from a physiotherapy referral to strengthen pelvic floor and sphincter muscles?

Good luck! Smile

Hope you're feeling a bit better now OP.

There is a private support group on Facebook called abscess/fistula support for women and it a great group. There are also a few others and all are private. My other half suffers from this and has a seton in place at the minute and I can’t even begin to imagine how sore it must be.💕

I had a seton in place for about 8 months following an abcess that turned into a fistula. I was warned that as the seton moves and cuts through the sphincter muscles it can cause temporary continence issues. Ive been there and when its happening its just an awful thing to go through and feels like it will never end. It does get better i promise x

Are you sure that it was placed 100% correctly. There is a history of some of these devices being insert in an incorrect manner and it can lead to massive issues.

There's been class action in relation to vaginal mesh (irishmedicalnegligence.ie/vaginal-mesh-class-action-won-against-johnson-johnson-in-australia/). If I were you I'd seek a second opinion immediately.
