Cancer: Chasing for overdue appointments

My dad is waiting for appointment to get a sigmoidoscopy after cancer was found in his lung. As the cancer didn’t originate in the lung, treatment can’t be sorted until we find out where the cancer is from. He has polyps in his bowel, has had a stomach biopsy which we’re waiting for results on, just need to get the sigmoidoscopy sorted. And yet 10 days since his stomach dr sent a letter to request an appointment, no appointment. his Macmillan nurse said she’d call today with an appointment but nothing. Can anyone recommend next steps and contacts for chasing? I have a feeling this will be useful to know going forward anyway...!

If you know what department it is go direct to them. You might get redirected to a specific appointment line but if you are happy to spend a little while working the phone I would.

Do you have a copy if the referral letter? Failing that contact the stomach doctor and ask them for the details.

Find out what consultant he’ll be under and contact their secretary direct. Numbers/names can usually be found on hospital website.
