My dm is receiving palliative care. Drs say she is declining in oral intake and is just being made as comfortable as possible.
She has been ill for a long time now.
I hate the not knowing how long she has got. It makes it very difficult. I'm going away soon to another country and I'm dreading leaving her incase it happens whilst I'm away. Anyone with experience professionally or not shed any light please on how long it can take once food/drink/meds is struggling to be taken? Tia

Hi. Sorry to read about your DM.
My DMIL passed away 18months ago. . She stopped eating and drinking about two weeks before she passed and had not had any Iv fluids for the last 5 days , she just gave up I spoke to her the night before she died and told her it was ok to go , we knew she’d had enough and I would make sure her boys where ok, she passed away about 4 hours later. The palliative nurses will be able to help a bit. They will recognise various signs.
Take care.

Thank you for responding. My dm is having some food/liquid but very little. It is a progressive degenerative disease and is now in the palliative stage so it's not like when it's cancer or something when they say it's going to be a matter of weeks/months.

So sorry.

My friends son passed away recently, it was 10 days from the point when he'd last had food or water. Xx
