Any positive stories about lung cancer with brain metastases?

My Mum was diagnosed with a 2cm mass in her lung (inoperable as too close to artery) with secondary lesions in her brain.

She has a biopsy tomorrow - and I can't be with her because I am in bed with bastard flu

She's 76. I know she's not going to see 90, but is there any chance that she might get just a few more years? I know I'm clutching at straws but even a tiny bit of hope would really help.

How is your mum getting on? I’m in the same position as you but my mum is a bit younger. Anyway hope you’re coping ok, it’s very hard isn’t it xx

Sorry I see a lot of patients in this situation and the prognosis is not generally good but if she has a good response to Radiotherapy it may be kept in check for some time. It really depends how many brain metastases they are whether they can be kept in check with Radiotherapy and steroids etc. Sorry to read what you are going through.

My Dad had lung cancer and his path followed the consultant's prognosis very exactly. In his case this was months not years. But he only had one round of chemo and then decided not to have any more. So obviously things will depend on how your mother responds to treatment. But I think in general, her consultant will be able to give you an accurate timeframe.

The only positive from it, is that we did all have plenty of time together before the end. There was nothing left unsaid and no regrets (other than the obvious of course).
