Beloved Mum Dying

My beloved Mum is dying of cancer. She was given a time period to live and we are getting towards the end of that time. I think she only has a month or so left. She is disappearing.

I cannot imagine a world without my feisty caring brilliant Mum.

Sad for you. I hope you have plenty of happy memories of your lovely mum.

I have several lifetimes of perfect memories. I am so lucky to have had such a wonderful mother.

Oh LittleHo I really feel for you. I'm not quite as far down that road but know it's coming and can't imagine coping in the world afterwards. Really dreading it.

The only thought that helps me to get some sort of handle on it, is that we all have to go through this. All of us. Everyone. Perhaps not in the same way, but everyone has to experience the loss of their loved ones eventually.

By god though it hurts. More like an existential nightmare for me at the moment, rather than grief. I'm trying to investigate getting some proper support because I fear not being able to cope if I'm feeling like this now. Have you managed to get any help/support at all?

I've not had to go down this path with my parents yet and am dreading it.

I went through it last year. It's horrendous but you will get through it. Try and focus on the good times, and how you can pass the love your mum gave you on.

I'll try, but it is so hard. I can't imagine living in a world without my mum. So sorry for those of you who have already been through it.

I'm going round as much as I can without wearing her out. Went today and she slept for much longer than usual.

I have a lovely family so lots of support and the hospice have offered free counselling but I'll never get over losing her.

littleho hope you're OK. My dad has days/weeks left now and is in a hospice, very advanced prostate cancer the staff are really kind. His hands are quite cold and he gets confused a lot due to morphine but he's out of pain which is wonderful.

My mom was palliative and it was absolutely soul destroying. Sorry you're going through this. Hugs

I'm so sorry you're going through this Little, my mum died on Feb 1st, you're doing everything you can possibly do, you both know how much you love each other and in the coming days that will be something you treasure. I too had an amazing mum and it's hard without her. Wishing you strength and support, cancer really is a massive bastard.

I'm sorry you're going through this. Cancer is such a fucker isn't it? I lost my Mum to breast cancer 3&1/2 years ago, and sometimes it just creeps up on you, I found myself in floods of tears in M&S yesterday as I saw someone who fleetingly looked like my Mum.
Ask her all the questions now, I wish I could have an hour with my Mum, I miss her so much. (If it's any consolation, she had a very peaceful end).

I never realsied how much you just take parents for granted. I've told her how much she means in person and in writing. I'm writing down all the family history and stories. I'm helping Dad with as many practical things as possible. Also taking her grandchildren to see her regularly. I don't know what else to do.

It is soul destroying watching your beloved mother slip away bit by tiny bit. Some days I am numb and other days I can't stop crying.

I would willingly climb Mount Everest if it would only change things.

My grandad is dying of terminal cancer too. I went to see him today and it's just awful, how it takes little pieces at a time. Little functions, or movements.

It just horrible. I have no words of wisdom, only to say I'm so sorry for you.

Mum in a hospice now. She doesn't have long to live.

Hold her hands as much as you can LittleHo. I miss my Dads hands. And his voice.

I only just came upon this thread today - I'm so very, very sorry for the loss of your Mum. It's over 20 years now since I lost mine and I can still remember those last few days so well. I so glad that you got to spend that time with her on Mothers Day, keep hold of that memory and of all the good and happy ones. She sounds like my Mum, just ever so kind and loving.

It's so terribly unfair.
