Anyone recently diagnosed?

Just that really. I've been diagnosed with invasive breast cancer. I'm under 40 with young children. It's not necessarily life limiting but wasn't sure where to put this.

Just wondering how other people are feeling and if anyone had made any plans they'd like to share or have anything they'd like to discuss.

Oh and I'm interested in hearing from people with any diagnosis- not just BC.

My Mam has just had it op. I'm not going too lie it was fucking tough but a year later she's doing fine.

It's numbered but I can't remember what for but she was number two. She had an op but not a full masectomy (so) 6 months chemo and three weeks radio.

Thanks for replying Suck. At the moment I'm pretty ignorant about what's coming. I'm having a mastectomy next week then will start chemo and radiation. It was weird finishing work and I'm not sure what I should be worried about so I'm probably overly optimistic.

I'm glad your mam is ok now, I'm looking forward to it being behind me also.

I have just been diagnosed with bc and see my consultant today for a further biopsy result and to discuss the treatment plan. The difficult part has been telling ds as I had been hiding it from him while he completed his exams.
If you go on the General Health board the tamoxigang thread is really helpful and there are loads of posters there going through, or who have been through, cancer treatments who are really supportive.

Did you recently have a core biopsy? Have they discussed treatment at all?

My dcs are old enough to know about cancer but don't understand how it will potentially impact us. I think if they were older like yours is be worried about them worrying so I can see why you waited.

Yes, I have had 3 core biopsies as there are 3 suspicious lumps/areas. My treatment will depend on the biopsy results I get today. Consultant has said there will be either a WLE (wide local excision) or mastectomy and chemo/rads. Hope your treatment goes well.

Oh that sounds like me- I had three (multi focal). That's why I'm having the mastectomy. It all seems to happen so quickly. Id be interested to hear how you go today (when/if you're ready). Good luck.

OP I hope your treatment goes well. I read the taxi thread and found it helpful to try and get an insight into how my Mam felt.

Hi *Truly" I am scheduled to have a WLE shortly however it turns out that I have a rare type of cancer and that the lump I have might not be the primary site
I am now awaiting a CT scan to see if the cancer is elsewhere before treatment can begin. Hope your mastectomy goes well next week.

Oh no, so many lovely people come out of the woodwork when this happens, so I hope you have good support.

My best friend just spent the whole day wit me at the hospital yesterday to go through all the stuff that will happen after and there are lots of organisations offering support too.

Hi Truly in September 2014, aged 41, I was diagnosed with Grade III invasive ductal cancer which had spread to my lymph nodes. I had chemo, WLE surgery then radiotherapy and I am now on Tamoxifen. My children were 3 and 7 at the time. I remember thinking there was no way I was leaving my children as they were too young. Chemo sorted out the majority of the tumour which was 4 cm. The surgery was ok and I can honestly say the radiotherapy was fine, if somewhat tiresome. I have always said having young children was the reason I coped well with everything and just kept going. If I hadnt have had them I would have been in a corner rocking!

Thanks ever. Your story is very similar to mine- I'm 39 and have 4 dcs (3-9) and I'm feeling optimistic as there's no choice really!

I'm looking forward to getting the surgery done so they can do the tests to see if it's spread (testing lymph nodes during the mastectomy , then doing tests afterwards).

If you return to this thread, how are you going now? Is 2 years too soon to comment? Does cancer run in your family?

Hi Truly. I'm doing well. I managed to work through the majority of the treatment. The kids kept me going and I think I only cried once due to any pain which was they changed the chemo. I'm on tamoxifen now and have been for a year. I know some people struggle with it but I'm coping. Joint aches seem to be the worst.

If I'm honest the hardest thing for me and my kids was loss of hair. I'm not a girly person but I did love my long hair!!

It would seem so. There is cancer in every generation on my dads side, including my dad. My son is currently in hospital as he had a Grade 1 Brain tumour in February. Cancer sucks!!!

Oh my god! I feel awful knowing your son is going through that. Strangely enough I felt that it's better I have it than a young person

And yes, it makes me feel like a real dick saying that my only tear shed so far was about my hair. I have the chemo and radiation ahead of me so there may be more tears to come.

Sorry Truly I've been away. He's doing well and luckily it was removed by op so no chemo or radiotherapy. Just scans every three weeks. He's been given a discharge date so that's good.

My biggest regret in hindsight was not taking control and shaving my hair off myself at the star. Seeing it come out every time I brushed it was traumatic!! Do you know what chemo you're having?

Hi, I'm out today and feeling positive. I'm Healy really well.

I have cut my hair short (and was feeling upset about it) so I'm so relieved to hear you say you wished you did that!!

I don't have many details until next week with the group of Drs, they still hadn't got the results when I left so no idea about type of chemo. I've just been reading all the resources they gave me and staying positive!

And that's fabulous news! I'm happy he doesn't need the further treatments- so cruel for a child best of luck to him xx
