After bowel cancer - ongoing issues

Hi all
My mother had bowel cancer several years ago, and underwent chemo and radiotherapy. She is now in remission, but has ongoing issues regarding her bowels.

Basically she has no control, and is terrified to eat most of the time as it seems to cause very embarrassing accidents. Her GP hasn't suggested anything helpful, and I'm worried about her health, both mentally and physically. She hardly goes out and is very lonely. Not eating is obviously a factor in this as well, but she's terrified of having a mishap in public (which happens often).

Has anyone had similar issues? Can you offer some advice? Many thanks.

Sorry to hear about your mum. I have no real advice but just wanted to send a hug.
The only thing I would suggest is to contact Macmillan.

Did she have surgery too? She should see her GP and ask for referral back to the local colorectal team. Continence issues aren't uncommon after treatment. If she is still under their care - suggest that she contacts the specialist nurse.
