growth on thyroid

Hi all,
I'm not sure if this is the right place to put this as I have not been diagnosed with anything yet but would like some advise from people who may understand. I have posted on general health but no replies.

I was referred by my doctor for a scan of my thyroid as I had a tightening in my throat.
Scan was 2 weeks ago now.
The day after the scan my doctor phoned me to tell me that I had a well defined growth on my thyroid and she had referred me to the thyroid clinic, for a biopsy, marked urgent.
Now it will be 2 weeks on wednesday and I still haven't had an appointment through.
I am trying not to dwell on this and to try to just forget about it until I get the appointment but its hard.
I have looked on the NHS website and for any suspicious growth that you need to be seen within 2 weeks, is this normally followed.
I'm not even sure where I could phone to chase this up?

I'm sorry you are going through this worry. I would recommend that you ring your gp to chase this up with the hospital. I hope you get seen soon.

Call the thyroid clinic, sometimes mistakes are made with things like your address and the appointment get sent to the wrong place ( i know this from experience!)

If it is of any help to your nerves the thyroid seems to be a part of the body that gets growths and they are very very often harmless. If it is the worst case scenario (and remember it is more likely not to be) then please remember treatment for thyroid cancer has a very high success rate

I had my thyroid removed 8 years ago due to other issues and a growth (which turned out just to be a growth) if you have to have this done the op is pretty easy (I think I was only in for 1 night, 2 at the most).

The department that would normally deal with this in a hospital is endocrinology, if you are not sure who to ring they will be a good place to start

If it helps I know two people who had the same thing, so it must be fairly common.

One had it removed, it was benign, no further problems.

The other it was malignant, treated successfully, and he's still clear over 20 years later (was diagnosed as a teenager).

I would phone and chase it though.

I wasn't too worried but looked online (probably not a great idea!)
but my gp said that my thyroid function tests were fine but my calcitonin ? levels are high.
Looking online the only thing that the search turned up was Medullary thyroid cancer.
Just want to know so could start treatment if it does turn out to be something sinister, but surely if they thought it was that I would have been seen already?
Think I will ring the doctors tomorrow to chase this up.
