Hi, I'm currently trying to support a very close friend who's dh has been diagnosed with Lung cancer two years ago. I just wanted to ask if it's normal to receive bad news for scan results over the phone? I'm so angry with the way they are being treat it's infuriating me. They are only young with a young ds and it seems they are getting very little support! My df is struggling with the depression related with seeing her dh going through something like this. I just wanted to know is this normal?? It just doesn't seem right to me. I hate that they are going through this but even worse that they are not getting supported.

I don't know what the norm is but my mum had my dads diagnosis confirmed over the phone, but for my dad it was confirming what they pretty much knew anyway and was prefferable to get the call the moment the last test results came in than having to wait a week until the next consultant appointment.

My dad has a district nurse and a Macmillan nurse, they are the ones who are providing the support needed has your friends Dh got anything like this set up. Would also recommend that your friend goes to a GP herself about her depression. x

Hi groove Thing is my friends dh wasn't expecting the news so think a phonecall wasn't the best in this situation. They've had no support from Macmillan or any district nurses. They've literally had appts then sent away! Literally from January this year they heard nothing until about 3/4wks ago! They've just been left. She went to the gp and he did refer her but she took a 30 min call from someone going through a questionnaire and she told them she knows why she's depressed obviously and after 30 mins was told that they couldn't help her so they'd pass it on to another team. 4wks later she gets a 'text' saying if you still need help call us on this number!! Where has the care gone? I just feel like they've been dumped. Every step along the way they've been let down. They're not the type of people to sit back and say nothing, they've chased things but got nowhere!

I think the next appointment he has, she needs to kick up a fuss and make sure all the relevant support is in place. If she is not feeling strong enough herself to do this then is there anyone who can go with her.
