My uncle went into a hospice today

He was diagnosed with a terminal brain tumour in May this year. Had been previously fit & well. He's been gradually deteriorating since then but now he's had to go into a hospice. It just feels so final. I just feel so sad about it. We all knew it wouldn't be years but the hospice just makes it real that his death is fairly imminent.

So sorry to hear this. My husband died of a brain tumour aged 50. 2 years ago. It's a heartbreaking illness and takes so many people too young and research into treatments is woefully inadequate.

On the other side, how lovely that he's got a place at a Hospice. Such wonderful places - so caring, peaceful places.
We were so relieved when my Mum finally got her place in our local hospice. It made such a difference to her care and general wellbeing.

I know it's the best place for him, and I've heard good things about this hospice, but it's just so final. I just wish none of this was happening, he's only 67.

He passed away early this morning.

Thought I was doing ok but floods of tears this evening. I just keep being reminded of things. For example, they recently have us some presents for our DSs. Some of the bits weren't really appropriate for the boys because of their ages but they never had children so wouldn't expect them to know. Anyway, we threw some of the bits away (wasn't the sort of thing you'd give away). Some is still sitting in our drawers. I just feel shit and guilty and awful.

It sounds as though you must have been close to him. Don't be hard on yourself. Allow yourself to grieve. I was in shock when I lost my GF a few years ago even though like for you we knew when it was about to happen.
