NHS hospital issue - who do I direct my complaint to?

Had a number of issues recently regarding the care of my mother in hospital and specifically regarding her discharge, where her treatment was absolutely appalling. As a result, we wish to formally complain. Can anyone tell me who I should direct my grievance to? TIA

Start with the hospital trust Patient Advice & Liaison Service (PALS) - they all have to have one.
If that doesn't work then letter to Medical Director.

Look on the hospital website for their complaints procedure - it may be PALS is the first point of call.
Put everything in writing, and keep track of when you send letters or get responses. In my only formal NHS complaint they 'lost' it twice Hmm

The hospital should have a PALS (Patient Advice and Liaison Service), the details of which should be on their website. They will forward complaints to the relevant departments and assist you in resolving issues. Alternatively you could approach the ward sister or matron, either by letter, telephone or arranging a face to face meeting. Hope that helps and that your mum is on the mend.
