how do you know which mummy is which??

Sorry if this is a crap question...my friend and her partner are expecting any day now and they haven't ventured on mn yet. So, what they want to know is, are you both mummy? Or do you have different names??

I know my gay friends are both 'mum' but when talking about being born etc she calls the mum that carried her the 'tummy mummy'.

But normal everyday 'mum' for them both.

in our case our older son settled for mummy if either of us would do, and mummy followed by one of our names if he wanted one of us in particular. The little one has just followed suit. However both have been known to shout 'mums' very loudly when out and about!!

Mums is fab! We are an "ordinary" couple but the children seem to be a bit indiscriminate with names - I frequently respond to Daddy. My mum was Mama if you want another mum alternative (or there is Mommy or Mam for the US/northern varieties).

My partner and I are both mummy. If she wants one of us in particular, she calls us by our first names.

My friends' dd calls one mummy and the other mama. I can never remember which one is which

We're Mummy X and Mummy X (our initials!).

Ds1 immediately shortened it to just using our initials - can't be bothered calling us 'Mummy'

Ds2 just says 'Mummy' and then can't understand when we don't know who he means

They both know who their tummy mummy is but (at the moment) that doesn't seem to make any difference.

Mummy and Mama too, but ds (20 months) is calling us both 'mummy' at the moment.

my partner and I are both mummy but with our first names attached too. We thought at first this might be a bit long for him, but he also uses 'formula' for nans and grandads and aunties and uncles, e.g. auntie lucy is just as complicated as mummy nic isn't it. It works just fine and there hasn't been any probs with him saying it all.
Our son is 2 yrs 3 months and sometimes just uses our first names, sometimes mum or mummy. HTH

Well I am Mummy and DP is "her name" but a specific version of her name which DD created.
It's cute-but she doesn't have two Mummies.

Bit off topic but how and when will you explain to your dc about your relationship?

The only reason I ask is that my curious dd has been asking me how "limmians" can have children.

our dd1 age six is beginning to ask but we have told her although a man has a seed the woman carries the baby in her tummy. If 2 ladies choose to have a baby they get a seed and use it to make a baby, at six this is all she wants/needs to know.
