My twin DDs have just started in reception. Up until now they haven’t realised our family was any different to any other family. They have lots of friends whose parents have two mums (kids of mine and my partner’s friends). I’ve taught them that everyone’s different, some kids have two mums like them, some have one mum, two dads, etc, but that most children have a mum and a dad. They’ve always accepted that and never asked why they didn’t have a dad or anything. Their school is pretty inclusive and there are a few other kids of same-sex parents there. However, one of my DDs said the other day that a boy in her class asked her why she didn’t have a dad. I’ve talked to her about this and explained how she came into the world. I’m just wondering, those with older kids, have they ever been bullied for having 2 mums, or asked difficult questions or had insults shouted at them etc? How do you deal with this? And how have your kids dealt with it?
