Lesbian couple in Scotland - thinking about having children

Hello everyone,

My partner and I have recently started thinking about having children. We are both women - I am 33 and my partner is 36 - and live in Edinburgh, Scotland. Due to our circumstances we cannot start a family now, but we would like to try in two years+ time. Would this be too late? What would be our best options in Scotland? I am looking for any piece of advice really, I don't know where to start! Thank you xxx

My partner and I have had two babies via IVF in Scotland - happy to chat if you want to send me a PM.

Re. whether it's too late or not, I'd say probably not (we had our treatment at 38 and 40), but in your position I'd consider booking a fertility assessment so you have more information about your own chances of conceiving, and that might help you decide how long you can wait.

earlier is always better, the main determinant of fertility is age of the female gamete
first work out if you are nhs eligible (i think you may not be anywhere in 2 years time due to age, but don't know the Scottish nhs rules)
i would even if you know you are not ready look out for an open evening at a fertility clinic near you just to gather facts and thoughts
