Furries

Today my DD came home from school , she’s 6th form and told me there was a child that identifies as a furry …. New to me this one . Wears a collar at school , although has been declined a request for a litter tray in class . On talking to my D.D this seems to be a large influence of social media . My concerns are not that someone wants to be their own being of cause they should - but the influence of social media and more importantly how these people can navigate in life without support … Thoughts on this please

Good grief. The world has gone totally barmy.

My point is we both in settings educational need to meet new challenges with help to facilitate children’s .needs . Of cause we will be some persons we have seen on posts that also need some help .. our building blocks from grass roots are essential

This. Is why as a send myself , I’ve come to net mums …. You’ll know only too well the challenges we have … no tools . ASD, ODD , we want to help … but little support or help with this increasing crisis of not supporting children that identify

The poster below makes a valid point this is mumsnet, netmums is an unspoken word 😉

There are way to many misconceptions about this topic. For a start, only a very small part of the community is fetish related. While I will not deny there is a more 'adult side' its very small. The community its self is based around people making there own characters and often there are teens involved. These character's that are made, happen to be animals. this does NOT mean furries think or act like animals. They do definitely not, and rather its just a hobby. To assume the whole fandom is fetish related shows a lack of research and is creepy considering its full of young children. While its totally inappropriate to do what's stated in the post above this doesn't link to the whole fandom. All of the above are most likely rumours as well!

@HermioneWeasley hey thats actually quite rude. im a furry and its hardly sexual. grow up and stop being mean to us

I am frankly shocked at the number of posters who say things like “people have the right to identify as whatever they want”. How and when did this belief evolve? Why am I (or is anyone) required to indulge the absurd fantasy of anyone else? I indulged (and enjoyed) pretend play for my DC — one day an astronaut, another a super hero, another a nurse, etc … but beyond a young age, no one has the right to expect anyone else to engage in their fantasies. If anyone wishes to dress as a cat or a donkey or any other “furry”, that’s a personal choice, but neither I nor anyone else needs to pretend the person really is a cat or a donkey or whatever, not so we need to offer any accommodations in schools or workplaces to allow these fantasies to evolve.

I'm sure my 13-year-old DD is into that kind of stuff. DH says its a weird internet subculture thing i think?

I've found sketches in DD's room of cartoony wolf and fox people standing on two legs with human proportions. Keeping a close eye on her and her internet access, thankfully she doesn't seem to be pulling up anything suspicious right now but if I see any more of those sketches I will question her about them.

dizzythewolfowo · 10/05/2024 21:37

@CowboyJoanna its nothing bad its just a hobby a furry is just someone who likes anthro animals nothing else seriously you need to chill about it. im a furry that dresses up because i had things happen to me in the past and dressing up helps me, its not like i identify as an animal or anything just let ur 13 year old be themselves.
