Today my DD came home from school , she’s 6th form and told me there was a child that identifies as a furry …. New to me this one . Wears a collar at school , although has been declined a request for a litter tray in class . On talking to my D.D this seems to be a large influence of social media . My concerns are not that someone wants to be their own being of cause they should - but the influence of social media and more importantly how these people can navigate in life without support … Thoughts on this please

We do not have litter trays in Irish schools, there were some fake reports in the media that were debunked.

It's never a preference though.

Ds(14) has started talking about furries over the last week so I imagine there’s a sudden increase on social media or something.
maybe it’s because self id-ing as trans is now pretty common amongst the teens, so those who have low self esteem and are craving the shock factor/attention seeking are now going one step further.

If I had read this 6 months ago I wouldn’t have believed it.

Unfortunately, there has been a massive increase of furries or students talking about furries.

IME these aren’t sexual and are different to the adult furries who are sexually attracted to other furries.
However, it could of course lead on to other things.

It absolutely is MH or some other issues.

I work with SEND students who often have animal alter egos and will act like them and believe they are that animal but those animal personalities do not come into the classroom because I refuse it.
I do not understand how some mainstream teachers are allowing this.

I'm not supportive of perversion.

You have implied , and I appogise if I have this wrong … you think that adults can’t make a choice of their sex life ! As adults we can do as we wish , however that was not what I was saying … I was talking about children’s identification , and indeed adults and the impact of social media be it positive or negagative .nand how we can help

Identifying as a Furrie would be a comical and even appropriate comment on the absurdity of it all. It's just satire surely.

This. Is why as a send myself , I’ve come to net mums …. You’ll know only too well the challenges we have … no tools . ASD, ODD , we want to help … but little support or help with this increasing crisis of not supporting children that identify
