I have been monitoring my ovulations using Clearblue opk's and my BBT and was wondering what the whole mucous thing was about as i have always suffered from alot of white discharge. Also what is spin?

Spin is short for some German word - spinnbarkeit or something like that - which refers to the stretchy mucus you get when you are at your most fertile. Try this: every day for a month, get a bit of your mucus between your fingers and take a look at it. Some days it will be very wet and white, other days it will be dry and almost crumbly. Then there will be a few days when it goes like egg white - clear and viscous and stretchy, you might be able to stretch a thread of it over an inch long. That means it is time to inseminate!

I say 'will' but I really mean 'should': I never got spin but I did manage to get pregnant. However, it is a very important sign and if you can't find it for a couple of months running I'd get some medical advice.

Have you read Toni Weschler's book on natural fertility control? I strongly recommend it - seems a bit hippyish at first but she really knows her stuff. When you are trying to get pregnant through insemination it is vital to really understand your fertile cycle.

I got "spin" - like when you've got a wide-on!

Sorry, I'm feeling very ignorant here - what is a wide-on?

fugitall · 14/02/2008 20:44

It's when you're aroused and feel all hot and swolen down below!
