Any book suggestions for teaching my son about different kinds of families?

Hello everyone!

I'm new to all this, so please be kind!!

Long story short, I was married to a man for 8 years before I 'came out'. We have a 7 year old son who has autism. (We're divorced but living in the same house as a family so we can both be full-time parents. We are very close.)

I'm nowhere near ready to re-enter the world of dating, but want to start conversations about different kinds of families to help my son understand. He's a visual learner which is why I thought about books!

If anyone has any tips or suggestions, advice or things that worked for them, please let me know! :)

This is the kind of thing a children’s librarian could be really helpful for. Especially as it can be a bit hit and miss knowing what will resonate with a child with an ASC. You could borrow a few recommendations and then maybe buy your own copy of the best?

My 6 year olds teacher has been sending weekly book recommendations out during lockdown. One was for a book called ‘all about families’ by Usborne which seemed to cover most family situations from same sex couples to parents with disabilities.
