Looking into IUI -does it have to be so expensive

Hi all,
I am very new to this not really sure what to write so I will get to the point, my wife and I are excited to be at the point we want o start a family and have been to a doctor within the NHS, we have saved and are ready to go but we also do not want to pay the moon and stars. A friend of a friend said that we should be entitled to one round on the NHS anyone heard or know any more about this and what we should be asking our doctors for? Any help would be really appreciated. Scared and soooo ready!!

The nice guidelines changed in 2014 for same sex couples to get fertility treatment on NHS, depending on your borough.

Ask your doc to look into this and refer you.

Try the NHS route first but if you get nowhere with that, consider going abroad.

My 12-week old baby is the result of IUI at a clinic in Copenhagen. Less than half the cost of IUI in the UK, a brilliant clinic who have been doing this for decades and in comparison with what friends are saying about UK clinics I received far better care.

Each IUI cost less than £800 including the cost of the donor sperm. Travel in the Winter/Spring was as cheap as chips so each attempt then came in under £1000, rising to £1200 in the summer due to hotels and flights costing more.

I had 4 IUIs and got BFPs on all of them. The only reason I ended up with 4 attempts is that I had an unknown blood anomoly which was causing me to lose them.

If I decide to have another baby down the line I will go about it in exactly the same way, though it does make a difference that I live near an airport with 6 budget airline flights per day.

Having gone down the Fertility route myself at a Private clinic, I wish on hindsight I checked out other clinics and there are some great reviews on clinics abroad. Also to save on meds (if being treated in the U.K.) check out some online pharmacies where it can still be expensive but much cheaper. (Oxford Onlinr Pharmacy for example). I did a comparison after my treatment...just being nosey and I could have saved me and my fiancé a hell of a lot of money. I just stuck with the meds at the clinic as it was easy and convienient at the time. I wish you lots of luck 🍀
