could I ask why? Not being piss-takey or anything but intrigued as to why your childminder needs to be gay Confused

rhetorician · 20/11/2011 20:31

yes, also curious about atyourcervix's question - given that everyone gay or straight has to live in a largely straight world...I wish dd (2.10) had at least one bloke at nursery - not only is her immediate family all female, but her extended family is predominantly so and I'd like her to have more proximate male figures in a caring role in her life

Try childmindinghelp.co.uk there are some on there but not sure where they live, or www.childcare.co.uk, good luck.

SacreLao · 20/11/2011 20:43

Try posting this in the childminder section. Lots of people on there who may be able to help.

ScaryFairy28 · 20/11/2011 22:44

I was curious as well but just cos I'm nosey! I'd love dd to be in a nursery with male staff but best nursery only has female staff, so GD will need to be chief male!

LesbianMummy1 · 21/11/2011 10:30

yes Sanfran I am Portsmouth would have been happy to take your twins but not sure you would want an extra two to four hour commute every day.

Interestingly as a childminder I have never had anybody specifically ask for a lesbian childminder but have only had one negative comment from a prospective parent in seven years

rhetorician · 21/11/2011 10:43

it would make sense though if the childminder will be working in the OP's home - it wouldn't be something that would bother me, even in that case, but I can see that some people might feel more comfortable

scaryfairy evidence seems to be that men who work in childcare are very good at it and the kids usually adore them - because they play differently and more adventurously (apparently)...

LesbianMummy1 · 21/11/2011 11:04

childminders work in their own homes not parents homes people who provide care in parents homes are nannies

rhetorician · 21/11/2011 12:00

lesbianmummy sorry I spoke!

ScaryFairy28 · 21/11/2011 13:34

Rhetorician I've worked in childcare for quite a few years and managed some amazing male workers that's why I'd have liked some at the nursery I send dd too.

LesbianMummy1 · 21/11/2011 13:45

rhetorician I was not rude to you purely clarifying a difference!

rhetorician · 21/11/2011 13:49

that's fine - i've just heard the term 'childminder' being used for both types, that's all. No worries -
