Help From Lesbian Parents Please

Gosh, there is not a nice way to put this, so this will be quite graphic. Please do not read further if you may be offended by sexual references.

My daughter is in a lesbian relationship and sought advice from me as she is quite sore down below. She has no discharge and is (self) lubricated enough IYKWIM. From our (v.strange) conversation, I have ascertained that she probably doesn't have thrush. I advised her to go to the family planning clinic and she would like me to accompany her.

This we will do. However she is so sore, she cannot have sex for 2 days. I wondered if you had any idea what this may be?

I am truly not a troll and have tried to word this post as sensitively as possible.

I dont think her being a lesbian has any relevance at all to this . What would you do as (i am guessing) a straight woman???

There is a possibility that she has Bacterial Vaginosis (BV for short). This is an alteration of the bacterial flora, and the "good" bacteria that noramally live quite happily within this region become altered. This can be through numerous reasons including taking antibiotics, washing too much with soap or other shower products. Some people recommend putting natural yoghurt on the area. If the infection is not improving she will need antibiotics (most probably metronidazole which if you drink any alcohol on you will be very ill).

try something called balance activ which you can buy over the counter. if that doesn't clear it up then she needs to go to GP for some swabs.

Agree - think this is a generic womens' health issue and nothing to do with her sexuality!

It sounds like possible herpes. Genital herpes can be excrutiating. Bacterial vaginosis doesn't usually irritate that much, it's more a malodorous discharge. I've previously worked in G.U medicine if you want anymore advice get in touch. G.U medicine clinic would have been better than family planning for this type of problem.

some thoughts from a lesbian & doctor (!):

It could be simple allergy to something she has used in play (eg latex/lube/silicone toy)or bath product.

It could be thrush or BV or herpes(although thrush/BV usually give discharge; herpes typically has little blisters or crusting/ulceration) It depends what other symptoms she has really.

The key thing is for her to talk it though with her doctor (GP or GU clinic) & be examined.

Its great she has a supportive mum she can talk to about sexual health :)
