hiya

bought a second hand car from a dealer mid may. leaked oil withing a week had free diagnostic report done at landrover and dealer (with pressure agreed to put it all right). i went away for a week so he had time to do it all. seemed ok for a while, noticed monday oil is leaking again, and its much much worse, all over my drive!!!. What the hell should i do, i am a cm and cannot be without the car, my business will fold. dealer is an hour away so its hassle even getting there. have send really formal email and letter but he just does not reply. any help greatfully received x

Did you get a warranty from the dealer?
If not then legally you are stuffed and would have to pay for any repairs, regardless of how unfair this seems. But hopefully you wouldn't have bought a car without making sure that there was a warranty, in which case he will have to fix it.

just looked at consumer advice :Any warranties or insurance policies offered by the seller are additional to these rights and cannot replace them. will see if i can get hold of him again

Sales of Goods Act comes into play here (unless car was bought for peanuts). Check out Honest John on this.

The more time passes the harder it will be to get anything done about this. The seller will delay and delay, tell you it's fixed when it's not, tell you it's something minor when it's not.

Then when your warranty has expired, it'll turn out that some major gasket had failed all along, and you'll have a £1300 bill/write-off car.

Don't let him off the hook - make a real nuisance of yourself asap.
