Am on a rant so plse forgive.
We had a death recently in the family and I recieved the death notice from the hosp today asking me to registar the death . The thing is that the Name and address of the deceased are spelt wrong ie not actual name but would be like Katherine with a K instead of Catherine with a C and the actual home address is spelt totally wrong also the underlying illness has incorrect time frame as is the final illness onset Dr says 24 hrs but I was there when diagnosed 5 days before death by hosp Cons [we did not trust them so she was never alone and a diary was kept [long time inactivity re treatment] also Dr who signed the notice did not see her when she said she did [12hrs before death it was the hosp hse Dr].
Can we reg death and tell them correct spelling and what about the cause of death can that be checked or ammended now 4weeks after death Am not sure if I should let it go or not and where do I reg a death and how
TIA

You are supposed to register the death within 5 days, so you are already very late. However, you need the medical certificate giving the cause of death in order to register the death so, if challenged on why it has taken you so long, you can blame the hospital.

You register a death at the register office, exactly the same place you go for births and marriages. You should go to the register office for the area in which the hospital is located. You may need to make an appointment.

You should be able to sort out the spelling of the deceased's name and address. The only piece of information that will be taken from the medical certificate is the cause of death. How long she was ill, when she was diagnosed and which doctors saw her when are not included in the register entry.

You may want to complain to the hospital about the time it has taken them to issue the certificate and any inaccuracies it contains.

Thanks prh47bridge,
I did not know I needed to reg the death and only recieved the med cert from hosp today by reg post so guess that is not my fault and should not cause probs I hope, still the hosp have dated it also 2 April with the Dr Signiture 3 weeks after date of death and letter is registered so all prove that I only recieved it.
There is no contact details on letter so guess I will just ring the hosp and find out about complaints etc
Will bring her birth cert and id to prove actual name and address so that should be fine and will find the local reg office and ring them also
Thanks again who knew it would be so complicated
