Student flat contract - need to get out of it. Any advice.

My daughter is changing courses - so will not be going back to uni till september.

Her flat lease contract finishes at the end of July and she has another 1,000 to pay in a few weeks. She is back at home now.

She has rang the accommodation offices to get advice about what to do and they have told her that it is up to her to sell her contract.

Is there any advice available to her about her rights if she has any at all in these circumstances.

thanks

Student unions normally have someone to give advice.

Is it owned by uni or private accommodation?

It is private accommodation recommended by the university.

It depends on the contract. If it is a fixed term contract she can't get out of it and will have to pay through to the end of July. The contract may exclude her from selling the accommodation to someone else. She needs to read the contract and, if necessary, get advice from CAB or a solicitor.
