Car Insurance help

Last June my car was hit and the other driver drove off. The whole matter was reported to the police but I still had to claim on my insurance. I asked the insurance company (footman james) how much my insurance would go up by and I was quoted £397 it was previously £323. I decided to go ahead and claim as the damage was nearly £600 and I didn't have the money.

My car insurance is due for renewal in 3 weeks and i've just recieved a letter from Footman James saying they can no longer meet my insurance needs and won't be renewing my policy. When I used their website for a quote it quoted me nearly £2000!!! Cheapest one online is £868. My car is only worth about £800 and I can't afford nearly 1k in insurance. Is there anything I can do?? The crash was not my fault and the insurance claim states this as do the police. Am so screwed without a car.

I have just been through this with mt 21 year old ds,Try Aviva and Direct Line.Neither of these companies quote through the price comparison search engines, you have to get quote from their websites. My ds saved £300 with Aviva.
