Really need some advice. Had an accident on Monday, collided with another car, apparenty my fault as I pulled out onto main rd. Both cars are now written off.Luckily everyone survived without injury.
Now the insurance company are sending an engineer to value my car today and decide how much he will give me. The breakdown comapny/garage that its at said don't accept their first offer and to hold out for more.
What do I do, anyone been in this position?

You need to make sure the insurance company offer enough to buy you exactly the same car you had. They will often try to get away with offering a lower figure - they do this with all types of claims. Just refer them to the terms of your policy document and insist that they pay out what you are entitled to and they will usually cave in pretty quickly.

Insurance companies always try to offer you less than you are entitled to initially. they rely on the fact that a certain percentage of customers will just accept their first offer and that way they save money. A letter referring to your entitlement according to your policy terms usually does the trick pretty quickly.

when my car was written off the insurance company made me a very generous offer, rather more than I was expecting to be honest. but it wasn't my fault so i expect they were assuming the other side would be paying. shame as other side had no insurance.

Go to Parkers www.parkers.co.uk/cars/used-prices/# to get a valuation from them for a rough guide.
