Hi

My solictor has just prepared the divorce petition and in the "Particulars" part of the statement, there is sentence in it that I am not to happy with, can you ask a solictor to amend this or completely take it out of the petition?

I just dont want to sign it until I completely happy with it.

btw the sentence is regarding debts and finance which I did not want as a focal point in my divorce

thanks for reading

Hi there

The petition can be amended as many times as you want before it goes to court. You will be charged but at least you will be happy with it.

Best regards

Agree with Sassa but you just need to ensure that there is still enough in there to satisfy the Judge that the marriage has irretrievably broken down due to your H's unreasonable behaviour.

You have to be happy with it.

At the end of the day, no-one will ever read it again!! I agonised over the petition but it soon beacme irrelevant and just a means to an end. If it's going to cost you to change it, why not let it stand and get on with getting your divorce. The only people who will see it are you, your ex and lawyers/court officials who see hundreds and won't remember yours. I can hardly remember mine and all I remeber is that EH hated the fact it made him sound like a git (unreasonable behaviour). It may hep your case as mumoverseas says. She (mumoverseas) gave fab advice to me when I went through my divorce -
