Death Certificate from France?

My grandfather died five years ago in France whilst in the care of my aunt. At the time she refused to provide a death certificate, though we were able to go ahead with the funeral based on an extract from the parish register. However, we cannot finalise his probate and now my grandmother's probate (she died last year) without it. Is there any way we can purchase an additional death certificate from France?
Many many thanks for looking and maybe someone can help...?

I don't think you can buy a death certificate from France, but you might need to go on the town hall website and request a death certificate (I did request my full birth certificate on line a couple of weeks ago). I'm just going to check a couple of things and get back to you.

Ok, just checked. Anyone can request a death certificate. You need to write to the Mairie where your grand father's death was registered, stating his surname, forename and date of death. Send A SAE envelope or as I mentioned before go on the mairie's website (not sure how long it takes though, am still waiting for my birth certificvate. You can request more than one copy. Hope it helps. Any questions, let me know.
