Credit cards and additional card holders...whos debt?

Sorry if I should have put this in Money but wasnt too sure where it belonged.

H and I have joint cards on one particular account. He is the main card holder and I am additional card holder. All statements come through in his name only.

We are now seperated. He is using the card with my name on it as is only one with a pin. I really dont want him running up lots of debt on it but needless to say I am pretty sure its being used regularly. I have asked for it back and he is saying I dont need it back as he is down as main account holder so I am not liable for any debt that is on this card.

As far as I was aware as it has my name on it its down as my spending. Just wondered if someone could clear this up for me!

Thanks in advance.

Don't worry, he is liable for the debt, not you.

AFAIK it's his debt. BIL split up with is (now EX) W. She carried on using 'her' card but when it came down to settling the debts it was him who was liable as the card was in his name and she was an additional card holder, the actual account was his.

It may be worth checking the T&Cs on the website of your card provider to be sure.
