My parents received a letter today, which was addressed to me, although my surname was spelled incorrectly (think Barker instead of Baker or something).
This letter said that their agency had attempted to contact me several times (not to my knowledge, or that of my parents) and that they now have my parent's address as a possible contact address for 'me'. The letter implied that my address was one of several they were trying for this person.
According to them I have a debt (no more information given other than 'a debt') and that I need to get in contact with them. They provided a phone and reference number.
I know that I am not the person they are looking for, as I don't have any debts, have never had a credit card and have closed all my UK bank accounts (I live abroad).
My question is - should I contact them and tell them they have the wrong address? That was my first instinct, although their offices were closed. Then I googled them and realised that a lot of people have had problems with this company. I don't want to have to go down a legal route with them, and I certainly don't want them to have my current address! At the same time, I don't want my parents bombarded with letters etc.
What should I do?
