What’s the usual form for the timing of registering a power of attorney?

What?s the standard practice for registering a power of attorney if you?ve made one with your lawyer at the same time you made your will?

Does your solicitor register it with the OPG then and there (inc. notifying the attorney) or are most of them kept on hold and sent off when the oldster gets dementia/asks for it to be registered.

Also, is it possible to be named as an attorney without being told?

What a dull question - I do wish I was posting about cup sorry fairy cakes. Thanks to anyone who gets this far....

I've appointed my DD1 as having power of attorney in the event of my being unable to manage my affairs. She had to sign agreeing to this & tbh I'd never heard of the OPG - I assumed because this was registered with the solicitor, that was sufficient.

Pardon my ignorance but what is OPG please?
I ask as I am considering doing this power of attorney with my son.
