Car Insurance Fraud - what are the penalities?

My dp, a recovering alcoholic, did not disclose 10 point endorsement received on his licence (alcohol related; in charge of, but not driving vehicle)to his insurance company.
He was then involved in a car crash whilst under the influence (after which, of course was banned) and was able to claim from the Insurance company, which he did.

This happened approx four years ago, now somebody has reported him.
He's had a 'loss adjuster' to interview him and we're worried about what's going to happen next.
Any idea what we can expect?

They will probably ask for the money back plus their costs.

Depends on the company. You should be aware that as he has committed insurance fraud, that he may find it very difficult or impossible to get any sort of insurance in the future.

The companies fraud team will decide whether to ask the police to prosecute your DP - some are more rigourous on this than others

Companies share this info and remember one of the questions you get asked is about having been refused insureance before etc.

They are likely to take the attitude that, if he had disclosed the points, they would have declined to continue insuring him. In which case, they will request any monies paid to him to be returned, plus costs. He's also unlikely to be able to get insurance in the future.
