Naming grandchildren in will

DM has recently told me that the beneficiaries of her will and that of my late DF are 'grandchildren' . She said the wills were made over 30 years ago when there was only 1 grandchild. Now their are 6 grandchildren (including 1 step grandchild), they are all adults and there will be no more grandchildren to come.

My question is when DM passes will the fact that the grandchildren are not named individaully cause any issues or delay. Would it be better to update the will at this time to name them all individually.

Thank you in advance if anyone is able to provide adivce.

The issue will be the step grandchild I'd have thought. It will be smoother if it's updated.

I think the step-grandchild would be excluded as non biological. (Im assuming the grandparents have a bio/adopted child who is married to someone with a bio/adopted child.)

See the other thread on wills at the moment! I would say grandchildren is best if they dont want to keep updating with names. And they are best off specifically saying if this includes by marriage ie step or not

Sorry I didn't see another thread but i will have a look.

The grandchildren are complete so there won't be any more to add in the future but I will mention to DM that it would be a good idea and protect the step grandchild. It will 100% not have occured to her.

I dont know who the executor is. If it's me or one of my siblings we know who the grandchildren are . But if its a solicitor I did wonder if they would be obliged to ask for proof of relationship if not specifically named by name.

She should actually name them and state %. No argument then, it’s totally clear.
