EDF - missed DSAR deadline

Any advice beyond what I have already done please.

My elderly mother randomly received a letter from a debt collection agency a few weeks ago stating that she had not paid her electricity bill from 2002-2024. However, this is for an address she left in 2006. She was very upset so gave me permission to take over the complaint on her behalf.

We eventually reached deadlock very quickly as it is irrefutable that the debt isn’t hers. The deadlock letter said the account would be closed and the balance was zero. However, she has since received a text and an email stating that the balance is still
outstanding.

As part of the complaint, I raised a DSAR on 20 August. This was acknowledged on 21 August and I was told it would be directed to the correct department.

21 September and nothing back so contacted them. No reply. Sent an email to their DPO and nothing. Today they wrote and basically said “soz, it was overlooked. We’ll be in touch in a month.”

I have gone to the ICO but their backlog is a minimum of 10 months.

Is there anything else I can do? She has been very very upset about the whole thing and the whole thing is just farcical.

TIA

Block them on your mums phone and just ignore them. The debt has been sold on, and as you seem to say they have acknowledged the debt does not belong to your mother.

they would have to issue legal proceedings against your mother which is unlikely so save your energy.
