My son has his own car, he has never made a claim on his own car insurance.

For 4 weeks last year he needed to use my car, him as a named driver on MY car insurance, He had a minor scrape in a car park, all sorted quickly with my insurers.

So, he is looking at getting a new car now, but one question when looking at getting insurance quotes is 'have you had any motor accidents, claims or losses in the past 5 years'

Can someone advise me as to how he should reply? He hasn't claimed anything on his own car insurance ever, it was MY car insurance he had the accident on.

Just want to do the right thing here...would appreciate anyone's knowledge in these matters

The question is about accidents and incidents, regardless of whether any insurance was paid out.
So he needs to declare that yes he had an accident, he'll probably be asked for the value of the claim, which you'll need to ask your insurer about.

Agree with @Jopo12. He has had an accident. The fact it was claimed on your insurance is irrelevant. He needs to declare it.

I think my main question is the claim was made when using MY car on MY car insurance.
My son has never claimed anything on his OWN car insurance when using his car, he's had no accidents.
So does he have to declare he's had an accident as a named driver on MY car insurance when using MY car?

Yes. Because he had an accident. Regardless of whose policy.

Yes, I had to declare on my insurance an accident I was involved in whilst driving a company car.

The question is 'have you had any motor accidents, claims or losses in the past 5 years' and he has had a motor accident.

Yes, he does.

Absolutely you have to declare it. The question is asked to assess your risk to them as a driver. Doesn’t matter whose policy or even whether you claimed.
