Uk Citizenship application

I’m helping my MIL with her UK citizenship application. We have a first referee who just needs to know her and hold a British passport but are struggling for a second professional referee. It looks very similar criteria to a passport counter signatory. I’m wondering if I can use my sibling? Not officially related to my MIL as the relationship through marriage is to me not my entire family. Am I correct here or will this not work? Thanks!

You really need to speak to a solicitor that has knowledge of this area.

My understanding is that you could not act as referee for your MIL (or anyone else in her family). However, in this situation I believe that your sibling would be able to.

However, I would really, very strongly, suggest that you speak to a solicitor with experience of this before making an application.
