Trees overhanging garden

My garden backs on to a river. There is no bank on this side of the river. The trees growing on this side are massively overhanging my garden and branches keep coming down. I contacted the council but they are not responsible. I have done a land registry search and the company that apparently owns the land was liquidated. Surely someone/a company has to be responsible. I could get the branches cut down that are overhanging (probably my only real option) but the quotes are well over £10k.

The reality is that even if there was an owner on the scene if they refuse to cut overhanging branches your recourse is to have it done yourself.

If the company has gone into liquidation a liquidator would have been appointed and you can ask them whether a buyer has been lined up to purchase the land.

Thanks @SpirallingdownwardsI know I am
going to have to take the hit. It is also the branches from their side that are falling down and landing in my garden. It is really dangerous out there when it is stormy.

In some areas Local Authorities can take action over dangerous trees

Do you have legal cover on your insurance? I might start there.

Thanks @JohnofWessex no idea re my insurance. Will have a look.

Not sure exactly what the set-up is without a good diagram, but could you sort of move in and claim the land? Not to really keep (though that might be nice!), but If you make it obvious you're moving onto it the owner might contact you quite urgently.
