Is it my builders responsibility to fix this?

Hi ladies - I would appreciate your advice.

I had an extension built last year which included a skylight which opens / shuts using a control device rather than manual. Unfortunately the handle doesnt stay in the closed position so essentially it’s not working.

We have asked our builder to come and fix it but he keeps pushing back and saying we need to contact the manufacturer of the window as that’s all he will do anyway and our warranty is with them not him. In our view, he supplied and fitted the window so he should be the person responsible for fixing it.

Would anyone in the know be able to advise on this please ? It’s been on going since May !!

You're right. Your contract is with him, not the manufacturer. He has a contract with the manufacturer/supplier separately.

He is bound by the consumer rights act and needs to check it's been fitted properly first of all. Making him is another matter entirely though.

Yes you are correct but OP ought to locate the warranty and see what it says

Who bought the window? Did you specify the windiow, purchased it and the builder fitted?

However to get it resolved...contact the manufacturer. The longer you leave it the less chance you will have warranty.

So the contract fif the window and warranty would with between the builder and window company. If its Velux they are usually very good and would assist if you call. Upshot is act soon as it will be time limited.
