Argos obstructing Consumer Rights Act

Has anyone had a bad experiences with Argos? We bought a Bush heat pump tumble dryer in October 2024.

In late December, early January it started to do some odd things with the child lock symbol. Then started to make horrible clunking sounds. Worked for a little while then finally conked out altogether.

We believe it should have lasted more than 15 months, particularly considering it was £400 and contacted Argos under the consumer act. They made it difficult to contact them of course but finally got a meaningful reply. They require an independent engineers report - fair enough, after 12 months the burden of proof is on us.

However all the 4 local engineers I have contacted say the same thing - they can’t diagnose the issue as Bush are part of Argos and there are no technical details listed for Bush machines.

This feels like a racket to me, Argos make it impossible to obtain the thing they require for consumers to exercise our rights. Surely they can’t do that? What option do I have next or is it straight to small claims?

They’re driving me mad! 😂

call. or trading standards perhaps.

It seems like CAB will be my best bet. It’s just so shameless of them 😂 I’ll dig my heals in on principle.
