Seeking affordable legal advice

I'm currently trying to find affordable legal advice after a safeguarding incident, the case is fairly complex and I have no idea what I'm in for when it comes to seeking a child arrangements order which is what the police have suggested. The family worker is still making their assessment so I'm waiting on that, but keep having contact requests from the other parent then unclear from the children about whether they want contact and ambiguous advice around it. Due to abuse in the relationship and since it ended my finances are fairly limited and I don't believe I have anything to evidence the merit test for legal aid. Any advice or suggestions welcomed, as I'm finding this incredibly difficult and confusing to work my way through.
