Rent refund

Hi all,
We rented our property for 8 years through an agency, we met the landlord a couple of times, once when we had an issue with the garden, really nice guy and he mentioned to us at the time that if we was ever interested in buying the property from him than give him a shout as he knew we liked living here etc - we eventually was in a position where we could buy and now we own the property.
However, its been a month now that we have completed and although we have recieved our deposit back we are still awaiting the agency to refund the rent that we paid (rent was paid 2 weeks before completion so they owe us 2 weeks back) myself & the landlord updated the agency as soon as the completion was confirmed but i have been constantly chasing them since then for our refund that we still havent recieved.

They advised me on Tuesday this week that it has been released and we will have the money wednesday, shock its Saturday and we still haven't recieved it (yes im aware its christmas & bank holiday) however its just the constant not updating me and passing the buck...

if we didn't pay our rent in a month what charges would they add on? They would be hounding us for it etc so its just the principle now - can anyone advise where we stand with complaining and what we can do from here to make a point to them

Thanks

You can do precisely sod all to make a point to them (who is them? The agency? The bank? The refund could be stuck at either stage with Christmas disruption.)

I suppose you want answers that say ‘charge them interest or request compensation’ but that’s never going to happen. If it didn’t come in future you could look at small claims court but it does seem a delay due to Christmas.

It’s irritating but it will come. Just concentrate on enjoying your newly owned house.

Yeah it’s annoying but first post sums it up.

Email them and start the formal complaints process, explain the timeline in detail and request that this is dealt with by senior management. Ask for proof that the funds were released on Tuesday as that doesn’t sound right - Wednesday wasn’t a bank holiday so unless they’ve stated it’ll take x amount of working days, it should have gone in.
Hopefully by Monday things are put right for you!
