If an executor sells some very valuable items before probate and we don't know where the money has gone, what is the best course of action?

TIA

If you area beneficiary of the estate you can ask that question.

Yes, I will. I just wondered what the legal situation is and what the consequences might be. We are talking about several hundreds of thousands of pounds. Difficult within a family in which I suspect coercive control is already happening.

The executors have to produce accounts annually and at the final closure of the estate, if they purloin property they become personally liable for the lost value to the estate.

Given the sums involved, the beneficiaries need to take legal advice and possibly instruct a solicitor, now rather than later.

Yes. I think we will have to. The executor is taking advantage of early dementia and mild learning difficulties. Both of those individuals would really benefit from some financial help. It is awful behaviour.
