Hi
I am a Disabled lady in her 50's with a partner who is my full time carer, and a adult son who is vulnerable, we are in receipt of benefits our housing entitlement is £550 a month our son in receipt of UC no housing entitlement.
We are from Wales and was issued a RHW16 a no fault eviction which ran out on 25/09/2025, we have been working with the homeless prevention team for the last six months we have applied, & viewed for over 100 properties in this time and they have either not been suitable or we have not even got to the viewing stage as amount of people viewing.
I need a property that is ground level no steps so either bungalow or ground floor flat which needs to have direct access as unable to walk far, needs to have a wet room as a larger lady who cannot fit in a cubicle shower and due to fits can't have double shower with glass screen (previously on numerous occasions had fits while showering and smashed head through shower screen most private landlords wont allow you to make adaptation).
Now the homeless prevention are asking me to apply for private rents which are well above our means as there is more of them available, they have offered to help with top up on the rent for 6 months or six months rent in advance (repayable) which is brilliant, but we are really concerned as our future finances are not really going to change as my health is getting worse, our son hopefully will get the help he needs to be able to move forward and get a job, so if he is well enough to get a job he will move out.
So basically after six months we will no longer be able to afford the rent without the help, so intentionally making ourselves homeless, as full rent wouldn't be paid. Can we be forced into this situation by the homeless prevention?, don't get me wrong we are grateful for the help they are offering we just don't want to be in a situation where again we need to leave as unable to afford the property but being our own fault by not paying the full rent would we then get help? or can we refuse to do this?
Sorry if this is really long winded but it is making me ill with worry.
